alright. is humankind inherently good or evil? can a person be good or evil? what, to you, is good, and what constitutes as evil?

what about being shallow? i don't think anyone is inherently shallow. it's a matter of conditioning. there's always some degree of depth, even if they simply choose to stick to the surface. and what is "shallow?"

not a very articulate post, i know, but i have faith in your ability to grasp the idea.

so someone is evil as the result as an underdeveloped conscience? basically due to lacking a specific type of intelligence?

my main question, in regards to shallowness, is who decides what is shallow? this question is actually rooted in another of my beliefs, that there is no grand design or anything, which makes no one thing more important than another. if a person derives happiness from the superficial, there is nothing wrong with that, though it may make them exceedingly difficult to be around, depending on one's own values.

if that makes no sense (which i suspect may be the case, as i'm rather tired), i can elaborate if you can pinpoint any particular areas of confusion.

i would say that being shallow is partly due their surroundings. if a person grows up in a place where it's all about looking good (etc. not quite 100% on what shallow means..) then most likely they're going to grow up to be more concerned about these things.

my point precisely.

that's what i meant in my entry by "conditioning."

but it doesn't mean the person lacks the capacity for depth.
